Give land to poor Rakyat, not rich crony

State Assemblywoman for Pending, Violet Yong today hit out at the government for trying to trick urban settlers at Jalan Peace Selada off their homes, an attempt to get them to sign their rights off the land.
Violet and Sentosa State Assemblyman, Chong Chieng Jen today visited the families, some whom had squatted there for four decades.
She said last Wednesday, the Land and Survey staff went to meet the 200 over families there and said they were on an information collection. However, in the forms, there was a clause which said they should move whenever the government wanted them to move.
Violet said it was not a right attitude to rid off the squatters. Most have stayed there for decades with promises made by the late Sim Kheng Hong who said they would be given land nearby for resettlement.
She urged the government to give them TOL as the squatters were given electricity, water supply and telephone lines. “Why make their lives more miserable wanting to chase them out,” she added.
Chong when talking to the residents said land is their birthright. Sarawak is a land of plenty and people should have the right to stay on their land.
He said the villagers had seek their help as they did not want to sign the forms given to them.
The residents were asked to give their personal particulars to them and they would fight for their right to stay.
He said the government had given a vast state land to their cronies, Naim Cendera Holding Berhad and its subsidiaries, what is a bit of land for the poor to stay.
A resident, Chang Fook Kui who is a SUPP member said he was disappointed with the SUPP style of handing the situation. He said for the past five years, the residents had difficulty to see Datuk Sim Kheng Hui who refused to meet them. He said he had no choice but to seek Violet’s help.
He said when he approached Violet, she had rendered assistance to them over a number of issues.
He said it was not him who rejected SUPP but the party had been very evasive when helping them.
