The former protem Secretary of Sarawak United People Party (SUPP) Dudong Branch, Wong Chin Yong who quit recently was officially accepted into Democratic Action Party (DAP) DAP as a life member today.
The announcement was made by the State DAP central committee after a meeting at its office at Chonglin Park today.
Sarawak DAP Chairman, Wong Ho Leng said they accepted Chin Yong because his political ideology and struggle is consistent with DAP policies..
Ho Leng said Chin Yong submitted the application form to him personally on Friday and paid RM100 as life member.
Ho Leng is not dismissing the possibility that Chin Yong will be fielded in the next election but insisted that Chin Yong never set any condition when applying to join DAP.
Earlier on, Ho Leng said the DAP Sarawak had drafted Leong Kwong Yew, Limbang Branch Chairman and Leon Jimat Donald of Sri Aman into the State Central Committee, leaving one left vacant.
When asked whether Chin Yong would be roped into the powerful committee, Wong said they would accept anyone who has leadership quality and able to work with all the members.
He said anyone who fit the bill would be accepted and they would announce it by March 8 this year.
Chin Yong when contacted said he was pleasantly surprised that his application was accepted at lightning pace.
“I would like to express my gratitute to Wong Ho Leng, Chong Chieng Jen, Chong Siew Chiang and Ling Yau Sing,” he said in a statement.
He said he would continue to fight for justice, and against corruption in DAP.
Meanwhile, SUPP Dudong branch chairman, Dr. Soon Choon Teck when contacted was obviously pissed off by the news and merely says: “That is not my business. I have no comment”.
